Case Study: ZAG

The ZA Group is dedicated to bringing new and fun range targets. As the Creative Director, I've been able to work on and create several fun brands and product lines, starting with zombies and expanding from there. These targets are designed and built to be high resolution at 2'x3'. They are also used in promotion and collateral materials, including t-shirts and displays.

Case Study

The Client - ZA Group, LLC, a leading designer of gun range targets.

The Problem - Creative direction, marketing, and production.

The Solution - Create everything, continually expand and grow the brands.

The Implementation - We created our first zombie to see if we could be comfortable with this project concept, and it worked out great! We quickly expanded to a variety of brands, from zombie-related, space aliens, classic monsters, to dinosaurs and anatomical targets, and products, from gun range targets, ammunition boxes, clothing lines, and so much more. Projects include website design, branding, logos, clothing designs, packaging, advertising, video production, press releases, promotions, and events.

An incredibly fun set of genres to work with, so many opportunities to meet great people, and so many great projects to work on.

Comic Book: Beware the Watchers

"A lonely man finds hope in a device that gives him everything he wants, but there is a dark side!"

This comic book project was designed to be a movie prop and to support this movie short. It included five alternate covers, a full back page ad, seven comic pages, 8 movie comic pages, and miscellaneous advertisements.

Make a list

Lists are great ways to stay on track. Write down some big things you want to accomplish and some smaller things, too.

Check the list regularly

Don’t forget to check in and see how you’re doing. Just because you don’t achieve the big goals right away doesn’t mean you’re not making progress.

Reward yourself

When you succeed in achieving a goal, be it a big one or a small one, make sure to pat yourself on the back.

Think positively

Positive thinking is a major factor in success. So instead of mulling over things that didn’t go quite right, remind yourself of things that did.

Innovative skateboard equipment.

Krainkn Skateboards provides a new way to use a skateboard. It's like training wheels and so much more. The assignment was to create a group of characters, each with their unique personalities, to support a young girl's product line. Also, at the client's request , zombie versions...!

The Client - Krainkn Skateboards - www.krainkn.com

The Problem - Young girls are an overlooked market in the skateboarding community.

The Solution - The client suggested relatable, fun, active characters for young girls and parents.

The Implementation -

After meeting with the client and discussing the personalities and physical descriptions, the process began to create the prototype girl; the rest would be built from there. Once she was approved, details were added or modified to suit each character. Many details were added to each character so each was clearly defined.

Actual Krainkn product parts were modeled or added digitally later. Product details were modeled into the wedges and handles.

Each character, once finalized, was then given an action pose, using the product, and a relaxed, casual pose, with the product available. Once approved, Characters were re-rendered as zombies, with action, product poses, and zombie stalking poses.

A big project but a fun one. I had the opportunity to render softer edges and lighter characters than usual. The specific goals and challenges made it fun , too. I look forward to working with this client again.
